Possibility of recovering data from a crashed hard drive

Possibility of data recovery depends on hard drive failure such as the aforementioned head crash, external trauma, power surges, and so forth. There is countless other equipment glitches that can cause of hard drive failure. Let’s see in which hard drive failure conditions, we can recover our data & in which we cannot

Head Crash- A head crash means that the head of the hard drive has scratched or hard disk get burned or dust particles come between head and the hard disk. Due to head crashed, you can lose much of the data on the hard disk. In this case, you will need to replace both the head and the disk. If you want your data back send your drive to professional data Recovery Services.

Read & write errors- You can repair read & write errors by using inbuilt utility scanDisk on the hard drive. If the same issues continue, it is recommended that you replace the hard disk drive or send your drive to professional data Recovery Services.

Bad Sectors- CHKDSK repairs errors related to the bad sectors. Do not attempt to "repair" bad sectors by inbuilt utility. Doing so will either overwrite your precious data or result in severe data loss. In this case you can try hard drive data recovery software. The cardinal rule of data recovery software is that don't run data recovery software on same drive/folder in which you have corrupted data.

Hard Drive Failure- Unfortunately, hard drive failure is inevitable. With either method, it's possible that your failed hard drive will show up on your PC in this case your hard drive is probably fine, but your OS needs to be reinstalled.  If hard drive will not show up on your PC then you should take an initial attempt at data recovery software to retrieve data before sending the drive to a professional data recovery services. I have no idea what kind of voodoo magic goes on behind the data recovery software but it allows you to access and recover data from damaged hard drives.

The hard drive has failed electronically- This message is indicate by an error message during the computer boot cycle. In this case, Not much can be done other then replace the hard drive. Don't invest your money in data recovery because in electronically failure there is no guarantee of the money and time you invest will produce any results whatsoever.

Hard drive Input/output Errors- First try to hook it up to another other computers and backup your data. If still it shows same error then try data recovery software. No inbuilt utility will work in this case.

Logical file system errors- In logical file system error, the process is a bit simpler only need to run CHKDSK command. The CHKDSK specially made to fix logical file system errors.

Directory errors- Use ‘CHKDSK’ to fix directory errors.

Diagnosis: After reading whole article you will know the scenario of data recovery that for which conditions data are recoverable or not & help you to understand in which conditions we should use inbuilt utility, data recovery software & data recovery services. Many companies offers demo version of data recovery software that will scan your drive so first download demo version & check what might be salvageable before you lay down money to buy their software. Hard Drive Data Recovery software tailored for the windows & Mac OS.
